    Dear NAMS Families,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying your summer. I am writing to provide an important update on the addition and renovation of our Middle School. I’m sure you’ve noticed the significant progress that has been made, and we are excited about the incredible new opportunities this space will offer our students.

While the project has been progressing well, the timeline we’ve been working with is quite ambitious. As anyone who has undertaken a renovation knows, unexpected delays can sometimes occur.

In the next few weeks, we anticipate the delivery of new furniture and essential inspections by the building inspector and fire department. However, should we encounter any delays that prevent us from occupying the building as planned, there may be a need to delay the start of the Middle School by one or two days.

I will provide a final update on August 23rd, confirming whether a delay will be necessary. In the meantime, I wanted to give you advance notice so you can begin to consider alternate plans for your child/children in the event that a delay does occur.

Please rest assured that everyone involved is working diligently, and we remain optimistic about opening on time. However, in the spirit of transparency and caution, we wanted to make you aware of this possibility.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we navigate this final phase of the project.

    Warm Regards,
    Pamela Lathrop, Acting Superintendent

    Dear NAPS Community,

Dr. Gilligan has offered his voluntary resignation pursuant to an Agreement between him and the School Committee. We thank him for his many years of service to North Andover Public Schools and his dedication to the students of our community.

These last several months have not been easy and more work remains. With the receipt of MRI’s Management Letter, and the forthcoming CLA financial audit report, the Committee is confident that the policies and practices needed to prevent future budget crises will be implemented and met.

While the Committee convenes on the next steps, Ms. Lathrop will continue at the helm as Acting Superintendent. I have been deeply impressed by her commitment to NAPS’ overall wellbeing, to its faculty and staff, and to this year’s incoming students.

In the weeks to come, the Committee will be scheduling meetings to discuss the process of selecting the District’s next Superintendent of Schools, as well as having open and transparent discussions as to both the root causes of the District’s budget crisis, and more importantly what changes need to be made moving forward. The public’s participation in these meetings will be welcomed and valued.

    With respect and kindness,

    Alissa Koenig

    School Committee Chair
